Wayne County’s crafters know the kick-off to the holiday shopping season always begins with the Season’s Splendor Arts and Crafts Show. This year the event will celebrate its 41st anniversary when it takes place Friday, Nov. 19 and Saturday, Nov. 20 at both Fisher Auditorium and Shisler Conference Center on the campus of the OARDC.

Organized and presented by the Wayne County Arts and Crafts Guild, Season’s Splendor features more than 130 vendors showcasing a variety of handmade items for sale. In addition to providing an opportunity for artists to display and showcase their work, the show also provides the opportunity for visitors from not just Wayne County, but also the surrounding area, to stroll through the booths and shop for gifts for the holidays.

The Season’s Splendor Arts and Crafts Show has been popular with customers and vendors for many years, often having a waiting list of vendors.

“Our rigorous application process ensures we put on a show with high-quality, unique, handmade items,” said Faye Blough, show chairwoman and guild treasurer.

Blough evaluates vendor applications and uses a jury selection process to obtain the best quality and variety of items.

“All vendors submit an application and three photos of their craft and display, and a jury of guild officers participate in the selection process,” she explained.

The craft show will feature a variety of vendors showcasing their items, some of which include baskets, candles, floral items, jewelry, wood items, sewn items, stained glass, pottery, food, pet items, personal items (soap, lotion, balms and more), primitive creations, crocheted and knitted items, clothing, dolls, holiday decor and more.

In addition to Season’s Splendor, the WCACG also holds a spring craft show in late February. Proceeds from the shows are then donated to various nonprofit organizations in Wayne County that are dedicated to the arts.

“The guild has made many contributions to the community,” said Sheila Bricker, president of the guild. “It has used proceeds from the shows to promote the arts through donations to nonprofit art programs in schools and other organizations throughout Wayne County.”

Guild members also make fleece blankets and donate them to organizations for distribution to children in Wayne County, Bricker said.

The Season’s Splendor Arts and Crafts Show will be held at Fisher Auditorium and Shisler Conference Center, 1680 Madison Ave., on Friday, Nov. 19 from 5-9 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fisher Auditorium and Shisler Conference Center offers one-floor access and plenty of parking. Admission is free of charge. There also will be a variety of lunch options available on Saturday.
