The Wayne County Civil War Round Table, which is free and open to the public at the Wooster Branch Library, will present Black Men in Blue on Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m.

This presentation focuses on the Ohio Black community’s response to the Civil War, the wartime participation of Black men and the experiences of their families at home, and how White Ohioans responded to their service. Special attention is given to the 5th and 27th United States Colored Infantries, the two African American regiments credited to the state of Ohio.

Presenter Kelly D. Mezurek is a historian of African American Civil War soldiers, sailors and veterans. She is currently working on an edited volume of letters sent between the Black soldiers and sailors who served in the United States army and navy, often referred to by them as the Union army and navy, and their families.

The event is possible through the sponsorship of CWRT members, the Wayne County Public Library, R.W. Gasbarre & Assoc. Surveyors, Ed and Penny Gasbarre, and John Spaziani.

Masks are optional for this in-person program. For questions call the WCPL Reference Department at 330-804-4666 or email ref-staff@wcpl.info.
