“It’s going to be fun.”

That’s a promise Chuck Visocky is making about the Dec. 4 Christmas celebration in Shreve, which will include a small parade, tree lighting, caroling, special offers and treats from businesses, drawings, and games and crafts.

Visocky is leading a Shreve Business and Community Association subcommittee to plan the events that will begin at 2 p.m. The association’s mission is to provide a way the community can “have fun together and experience hope and joy in the season while supporting local organizations and businesses.”

At 2:30 p.m. musicians from the Triway High School band will lead a small parade through the village, bringing Santa on a sleigh.

Throughout the afternoon, the Triway FFA will host activities for children in the Clinton Township garage including games, ornament making and cooking decorating. The Lighthouse teams from Shreve and Wooster Township elementary schools also will help the FFA operate a photo booth. Steiner Lumber will provide a simple Christmas construction project for children.

Vendors will set up in HeBrew’s Gathering Place, and Sweethaven grocery store will offer samples of food from around the world. Store windows and businesses will be decorated for Christmas, and street planters will be filled with Christmas trees adopted and decorated by individuals and businesses.

The official lighting of the village Christmas tree will be at 6:30 p.m., followed by caroling.

The Shreve United Methodist Church will show the movie, “The Star,” at 7 p.m. in its activity center.

Shreve has a long tradition of celebrating Christmas. A past tradition returning this year is the holiday drawing. From the day after Thanksgiving until Saturday, Dec. 18, anyone can earn tickets for purchases made at Shreve businesses. The first ticket is earned for any purchase from 1 cent to $10. After that, a ticket will be awarded for every $10 spent. Purchases made on Dec. 4 will earn two tickets.

The Shreve Business Association is donating a snow blower for the major prize. Other prizes also will be available.
