Walnut Hills Retirement Community will host an ice cream extravaganza and resource fair on Thursday, July 21 from 1-3 p.m.

Visitors to the event can tour several living options on the Walnut Hills campus, gather information from several community resources and get samples of ice cream from five local ice cream vendors.

There will be stops at an independent-living home in The Meadows, an independent-living home at The Commons, the assisted-living suites at Evergreen Place, the Therapy Gym at the Transitional Care Unit and the outdoor pavilion near assisted living.

“Each of the stops on the tour will give visitors an opportunity to tour the living options and ask questions about them,” said Jodi Dean, director of marketing. “Each of the five stops will also have one ice cream vendor and displays and representatives from participating community organizations.”

The five local ice cream vendors participating include Miller’s Creamery, Mudd Valley Creamery, Schloneger’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream, Smith Dairy and Velvet Ice Cream.

More than a dozen community organizations will participate in the resource fair. The Holmes County Sheriff’s Department will be onsite to provide a medication takeback (old prescription and over-the-counter medications), and the Pomerene Mobile Health Unit will provide free blood-pressure checks and will have information on other assessments and services they provide.

Other participating vendors include Interim Healthcare, LifeCare Hospice, Crossroads Hospice, Love INC, Wayne-Holmes Health, Holmes County Veterans’ Office, Garaway Senior Center, Darb Snyder Senior Center, Springhaven Counseling, Hummel Insurance, Smith Funeral Home, Community Hospice and HealthPRO/Walnut Hills Therapy Department.

The event is free. Transportation between stops will be provided, and door prizes will be awarded.

“All attendees who visit each of the community resource displays and complete a tour card will have their names put into a drawing for several door prizes,” Dean said. “It is going to be a fun day, filled with information and treats.”
