This year Dover Public Library’s Prattle and Purl has made and donated over 100 hats to be placed on a new hat tree in the library. Hats are available now free of charge to anyone who needs one.

The hats are handmade and come in a variety of colors and sizes. It is suggested hats be washed before wearing. The hat tree will stay up through the holiday season while hats last.

“I thought it would be nice if our Prattle and Purl group did something special for our community during the Christmas season,” said Christine Tegtmeier, who proposed the project last spring. “Making hats would keep our neighbors warm and cozy throughout our unpredictable Ohio winters. Our group really embraced this idea and created beautiful hats and headbands. Making these hats has warmed our hearts as much as they will warm our friends’ and neighbors’ heads.”

The members of Prattle and Purl have made more than 100 hats, none of them exactly the same.

“I thought it was a great idea. Not only will the hats go to some pretty amazing people, but we were able to try out different patterns. Some of the items were perfect to use yarn from our stash,” said Cindie Strauss, club member.

“When Chris suggested it, it seemed like a fun idea to work on a project together,” said Joyce Volzer, another longtime member of Prattle and Purl. “It has been terrific to see all the styles and colors. You can tell everyone enjoyed contributing to our Dover community — such fun.”

Prattle and Purl meets at 10 a.m. on the first and third Saturday of each month at Dover Public Library. All creatives including knitters, crocheters and other crafters, regardless of skill level, are welcome to join. The club will take a winter break for December and January but will return with regular meetings on Saturday, Feb. 4.
