Dennison’s downtown area will be aglow again this year with holiday lights and decorations after the Village of Dennison challenged the residents and downtown businesses to light up Dennison with a holiday lighting contest.

Organizers wanted to make the town more inviting so people come and shop at the businesses and shops Dennison has to offer. The Polar Express train also will go out of the Dennison Depot during the first two weekends in December. The lights will remain on until Christmas.

The businesses and residents should light up their store fronts, homes and buildings by 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27.

Because so many are participating, the public is invited to come to Dennison and cruise in their vehicles in the area of Grant and Center streets between North First Street and North Fifth Street to view the displays. Visitors also may walk through or ride the train around the downtown area. The trains, for people of all ages, will depart from the Dennison Depot.

The cruise will be held Nov. 27 from 5:30-7 p.m. Santa, Mrs. Claus and some of the Polar Express elves will be in town to kick off the holiday season. As people cruise around, they will hear holiday music throughout the downtown. People can walk around the streets and find some hot cocoa and cookies along the way, but due to safety, passing cars will not be served.

On Monday, Nov. 28, the Clayland Lions will host its annual Christmas Parade, which will begin in Dennison at 6 p.m. and travel to Uhrichsville. An entire list of all the businesses and services offered in downtown Dennison can be found at www.villageofdennison.org/local-businesses.

The sponsors of the event include the Village of Dennison, Dennison Downtown Business Community, W.E. Quicksall & Associates Inc., Wood Electric, Wood’s Tall Timbers and Bridges Excavation.
