Aviators, Lions edge Warriors

CARROLLTON – The Carrollton Warriors basketball team had already beaten the Alliance Aviators earlier in the season, but it was the Aviators turn at victory the second time around.

Carrollton opened the game with a strong first quarter, leading 11-5 but Alliance turned things around with a solid second quarter – taking a 26-24 lead into halftime.

The Warriors fought in the third quarter, claiming a one-point lead going into the fourth quarter of action.

Late in the game, Alliance senior Brandon Alexander put the Aviators in front with a free throw and a basket, giving his team a lead they would not lose as they won 49-44.

Talen Timberlake finished as Carrollton’s leading scorer with 21 points followed by Micah Barkan with eight. Gage Poole added six points, Jaxon Rinkes scored five and Darick Miller tacked on four points for the Warriors.

Carrollton fell victim to the Minerva Lions 47-41.

The Lions controlled the game in the first quarter, leading 15-9. Minerva held a 28-18 lead entering halftime.

The Warriors turned things around in the third quarter, outscoring the Lions 13-6, still trailing 34-31 entering the fourth and final quarter.

Minerva put the nail in the coffin by outscoring Carrollton 13-10 in the fourth quarter for the win.

Noah Sallade led Minerva with 22 points followed by Connor Shingleton and Brayden Costea with seven points each.

Timberlake finished as Carrollton’s leading scorer with 14 followed by Rinkes with 12.
