Lions top East Canton Hornets

MINERVA – The Minerva boys basketball team moved to 8-8 on the season with a 63-39 victory over the East Canton Hornets.

Minerva led most of the contest, holding onto a 21-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 42-23 at halftime.

The Lions really set the tone in the second half, outscoring the Hornets 21-16 – scoring 17 points in the third quarter alone.

Brayden Costea led the scoring attack for Minerva with 15 points. Kole Mayle dropped 12 points for the Lions, all coming off of four three-pointers.

Minerva’s Owen Swogger scored 11 points. Noah Sallade and Drew Spall added eight points each for the Lions. Connor Shingleton chipped in four points.

The No. 8 Minerva Lions were scheduled to play host to the No. 10 Indian Valley Braves in the sectional championship February 24.
